Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. Localized prostate cancer is definitively treated with radical prostatectomy. Our team, led by Dr. Markos Karavitakis, is at the forefront of the most modern technique of laparoscopic three-dimensional radical prostatectomy, which removes cancer permanently while preserving continence and erectile function.
Using kidney ultrasound, cancer can now be detected early when it is localized in the kidney. Our team, led by Dr. Markos Karavitakis, is pioneering the application of three-dimensional laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, where intraoperatively ultrasound technology is even applied, precisely removing the tumor to the millimeter while preserving the healthy part of the kidney intact.
Cancer that has invaded the wall of the urinary bladder should be treated with a complete removal of the bladder. Our team, led by Dr. Markos Karavitakis, is pioneering with extensive experience in three-dimensional Laparoscopic Radical Cystectomy and the creation of a new bladder from the intestine, a demanding procedure applied in very few centers worldwide.
The treatment of urinary tract lithiasis, one of the most common urological conditions, requires a specific plan. At Central Urology, under the leadership of Dr. Ioannis Katafygiotis, we have established a comprehensive urinary lithiasis center for diagnosis, minimally invasive treatment, and prevention of lithiasis. Our center is equipped with three state-of-the-art high-power lasers and miniature instruments to provide definitive lithiasis treatment without incisions, based on the standards of the world-renowned Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel (two-year fellowship and certification from the American Endourological Society for both Dr. Ioannis Katafygiotis and Dr. Ioannis Leotsakos).
At Central Urology, under the leadership of Dr. Ioannis Leotsakos, we have established a comprehensive center for the treatment of prostate hyperplasia. We are one of the few centers that apply all modern techniques, such as Steam Injection Method, TURis (transurethral resection of the prostate using bipolar energy), HOLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate), and Laparoscopic Adenomectomy, in order to provide the best minimally invasive solution without limitations in terms of equipment or medical training. The techniques we employ offer treatment while simultaneously preserving erectile function based on protocols from top centers in Germany (Berlin and Dresden) and Israel (where both Dr. Ioannis Katafygiotis and Dr. Ioannis Leotsakos underwent a two-year fellowship and were certified by the American Endourological Society).
Transperineal fusion prostate biopsy is the most advanced technique for detecting prostate cancer, offering maximum diagnostic accuracy (diagnostic accuracy rates > 95-98% compared to the previous technique's 60%) while ensuring safety (no intestinal injury and minimal risk of infections). Central Urology, led by Dr. Ioannis Leotsakos and Dr. Ioannis Katafygiotis, is the first and only center of excellence in the entire Southeastern Europe to apply this technique with the most up-to-date and rigorous protocols. It also serves as an official training center for young urologists from Greece and Europe.
